Dublin, J. Wiseheart .c 1853. With a sumptuous lithographic colour cover by Harty of Dublin of the Royal Irish regimental Flag and the 18th Regimental Union Jack and in the foreground a helmet with a bugle sitting on a drum, all of the 18th regiment and either side cannon and cannonbal. Whilst at the centre and below the title,is a garland and inside are the crown and a golden Irish harp and below the regimental motto. The composer Rudolph Zabel set Longfellow's poem The Day is Ending to music in 1875 and composed The Freemasons Valse in 1863. Here with this set of quadrilles he has used entirely Irish tunes. The set was composed and dedicated to Colonel Clement A. Edwards CB & C L H and the officers of the 18th(Royal Irish) Regiment, on their departure from Ireland for service in the East Indies. The commanding officer was General Clement Edwards(1812-82) and he served in India in 1853 before then fighting in the Crimean War in 1854..Folio size with music. Small repaired tear from bottom edge and previous owner signature & dedication top outer corner else VG. Rare .
