With an absolutely superb colour lithograph illustrative cover by Alfred Concanen with a circular inset of the little black sparrow on a roof with a cat coming after him and around the circle are eleven characters from the song such as a policeman, a soldier & his girl and so on. Sung by Jolly Nash. Jolly John Nash( 1830-1901) was the foremost exponent of the Laughing song, later made world famous in the 1930's with the song the Laughing Policeman. Nash was a great favourite of the Prince of Wales and his most famous songs were, Sister Mary walked like that, Little Brown Jug. Nash was the first performer to work in front of The Prince. Robert Coote( 1834-88) has 5 songs listed in Kilgarriff but not this one and Stacey Lee remains obscure. The magnificent front cover speaks for itself and is the work of Concanen (1835-1886).Folio size with music. Slightly trimmed on bottom edge to no loss and a small grease spot by the spine else condition VG.
