Melbourne: F. W. Cheshire, 1970. 1 kg.; VIII, 388 pages, aknowledgements, appendix, bibliography and index. Red coloured endpapers. Black coloured boards with silver titles to the backstrip. This is an ex-library book but has no obvious signs -- stamps, pockets ect., to indicate that it was part of a library. The only way to tell that the book is an ex-library copy is a call number attached to the lower edge of the dustwrapper backstrip. A little rubbing to the book corners and bumping to the lower backstrip edge. Scattered foxing and browning to the top text block edge and browning to the other text block edges. Plaintext dustwrapper with white dustwrapper panels and red, white and blue striped backstrip. Black, red and blue titles to the front panel and black titles to the backstrip. Rubbing and creasing to the dustwrapper corners and to the dustwrapper edges. Very heavy rubbing and handling marks to the dustwrapper panels. As already mentioned a call number is adhered to the lower edge of the backstrip region. "The Labor split of the 1950s changed the whole shape of Australian politics, but until now it has been clouded by myths and the emotions of the opposing factions. The Split penetrates this confusion and with the aid of "inside information" examines the complex series of events that led to this momentous breakdown. The story of the split has its roots in the war years when the Communist Party of Australia was quietly building up its strength in the trade unions in the wake of the "gallant ally" period of sympathy for Russia.".
