LAST ITEM HELD MATCHING THIS TITLE STATED:
. Switzerland & UK (?) c.1870- 1900. 4to exercise books pp. each abt. 150, with many blanks, particularly in the commonplace book hard boards covers worn, spines repaired. The author of these interesting little works appears to be a Blanche Coumbe, who seems to have intended one of the exercise books to be a diary to be kept at her Swiss boarding school. Presumably some years later, for the handwriting is similar, if more mature, the empty book was used to write recipes in. These include Lemon Cheese cake (Mama's recipe), Cold Fig Pudding (Lady Bective) and French Potatoes, with some recipes at the end of the book attributed to the Daily Mail. The commonplace book describes the daily routine of Blanche's school near Neuchatel, the lesson timetable, meals, lists of pupils according to nationality, plus a number of verse extracts, several pages on "The Signification of Names", etc. etc.
