Black-and-white photographic frontispiece of Wing Commander Lionel Cohen. Within the text there are four maps. Gray coloured boards with gilt titles to the back strip. Bumping and browning to the edges of the back strip and to the book corners. Staining to the front panel, looks like half of a the cup ring. Browning and foxing to the front fore edge of the front cover. Browning and light foxing to the text block edges. Browning, offset tanning and light foxing to the endpapers. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down. The internal pages are surprisingly clean but a little brown. On page 147 there is a crease that runs the full length of the page. The biography of Wing Commander Lionel Cohen who won the D.F.C aged 70 after 70 Operational Flights Against the enemy ! who fought in the Matabele Campaign, The Boer War, World War I and World War II. As Sir John Slessor said in his foreword " I don't suppose it has fallen in to the lot of many Commanders-in-chief to have on their staff are relatively junior officer wearing on his chest the ribbon of a medal awarded for a campaign that took place before he ( the Commander-in-chief ) was born !" -- from the forward page V.
