The Nepean Historical Society, Sorrento, Victoria, undated. stapled booklet, 5½" x 8½", with card covers. Booklet in GOOD condition. By the early-1850s it became necessary for the establishment of a quarantine station for the rapidly-growing city of Melbourne on Port Phillip Bay. The site known as Point Nepean at the entrance to the Bay was selected. In 1852 the American ship 'Ticonderoga' sailing from Liverpool, England to Melbourne with 714 migrants was the first major vessel to hoist the yellow flag and report 'scarlatina' on board (and 100 deaths since beginning her voyage three months earlier). This booklet details the 114-year history of the site.
