Harrap, London - ISBN:0245538267 - first edition, 1982. hardcover, 5¾" x 8¾", with dust jacket. AS NEW book in AS NEW unclipped dust jacket. Part autobiography, part historical reconstruction, this book takes as it focal point the career of Jakob Kersten, who was recruited as a young man before the war into a small left-wing anti-Nazi resistance group. He was caught in an act of sabotage and incarcerated at the military prison of Torgau, 80kms south of Berlin. This book reveals a mass of new information about the machinations and tensions in the upper echelons of the German Army, which led to the attempt to kill Hitler. It also tells of (German) General Oskar von Niedermayer ('The German Lawrence of Arabia') who met his death at the hands of the man he served, Josef Stalin. All told by one of the few to survive Torgau, Jakob Kersten.
