Illustrated throughout with numerous black-and-white maps, line drawings of coins, reproductions of art works, and, a four-page foldout map coloured of the empire of Alexander the Great, a double fold map of Greece at the beginning of the Peloponnesian War, and a double fold dialect map of Greece, also coloured. There are evidently 209 illustrations and figures in the text, and eight other maps. Slight bumping and rubbing of the lower corners of the boards, discoloration marks to the edges of the text block from handling. The rear hinge is slightly shaken.
