The text is illustrated with numerous black-and-white line drawings drawn by Margaret Ayer. Pale gray coloured boards with blue paper onlays to the spine and front panel. Small Black illustration to both onlays, and black writing is also present. A little bumping to the head and to the heel of the backstrip. Faint foxing marks to the backstrip area. Faint browning to the text block edges. Illustrated dustwrapper, again by Margaret Ayer, against a blue background with brown and black writing to the front panel and black to the spine. A little rubbing an increasing to the top and bottom dustwrapper edges. A little chipping to the dustwrapper corners. Some fading and yellowing of the dustwrapper. Clipping of the dustwrapper, front fold over, top righthand corner. I hesitate to date this book. The Copyright date is 1945 and that is the only date that is visible in the book. The book however, appears to be in too good, tight and clean condition to have been read by children spanning over 50 years ! ( Even very, very, very careful people/children ) A small, and charming, story about a small boy and his family who live on a mat boat in one of her the beautiful lakes in the mountainous country of Kashmir.
