Alvin Redman, publishers, London - first UK edition, 1961. hardcover, 6¼" x 9¼", with dust jacket. Ours is an exlibrary copy in transparent protective covering, with usual stamps, stickers, barcode etc. GOOD book in GOOD unclipped dust jacket. It is said that the quested piano's wood came from the original pillars of King Solomon's temple, and that the sounds of the instrument were so golden that people believed it was a reincarnation of the Harp of King Solomon. Presented to a Prince in 1868, it turned up captured by the British in the battlefields of El Alamein, and taken to Cairo as a war trophy. The author, spurred on by stories of the famed piano told by his grandfather (a concert pianist), devoted his life to tracing and locating the instrument. A great story, lovingly told.
