London: Printed for Sherwood, Gilbert, & Piper, 1835. 8vo. Half calf over marbled paper boards. Spine gilt titled with raised bands. Pages uncut. (xvi, 350, ii, 8pp.). With litho. frontisp. of the Wreck of the 'Governor Ready' in Torres Straits, 2 other full-page litho. plates, fold. engrv. map, errata-leaf and publisher's book adverts at end. Ferguson 2073; Wantrup 152. The Ingleton copy with his bookplate on front endpaper. Complete. Rare. NOTE: The 'Governor Ready' (512 tons) having discharged 200 Irish convicts at Sydney, proceeded to Hobart en route to Mauritius. At Hobart her destination was changed to Batavia, but as adverse weather prevented her sailing via the Leeuwin, her route was again changed to that by Torres Strait. The 'Governor Ready' carried no charts for northern Australia, but she successfully negotiated the many reefs in the Coral Sea and the outer Barrier Reef; but was wrecked while proceeding from Murray Island to Half-way Island in May, 1829. Surgeon Wilson's subsequent adventures and his descriptions of the various settlements and the inhabitants are most interesting reading.
