Viking Penguin Australia 1994. ISBN 0670905836. Small 4to hard cover dust wrapper 135pp b&w and colour reproductions of drawings. A little wear on edges else very good. Distinguished British artist Jack Chalker was a gunner in the Royal Artilley when he was captured during the fall of Singapore. During his time as a prisoner of war (including time in Changi and the Singapore labour camps, Kanyu River Railway Camp, Chunkai and the Nakhon Pathom Hospital Camp) he made diary notes, sketches and paintings recording life and the conditions around him. He also worked with Weary Dunlop, documenting the ravages of disease, wounds and starvation as well as the fabricated medical equipment. Many of these drawings appear here alongside his personal account of those years.
