Child Orig Trade: Random House Australia, 2001. This charming book is about a boy called Walter who is a mad collector - he loves to collect pipes, wire, springs, bits of computer etc and he keeps it all in his room. He builds a telescope after much tinkering about and then much to his delight discovers a new planet. An astronomer is called in and Walter achieves the honour of having a planet named after him. The rhyming in this story is excellent and the language used is beautiful and at times challenging. The illustrations are amazingly detailed and vibrant in colour. It is a real breakthrough to have a picture book for children that is science-based and that features as its hero a boy who could be called eccentric. Children will love it and be inspired.<p>.
