This book covers his childhood spent in Harbin, a brief stay in Red Vladivostok, 21 years in Kuomintang Shanghai, during which he was eyewitness to the events of 1927 - Chiang Kai-shek's counter-revolutionary coup d'etat, the invasion of Shanghai by the Japanese in 1932 and 1937 and victory over Japan at the end of World War II. In 1947 he decided to got to the Liberated Areas and join the revolutionary work in Shandong. .
