Graves and music by William Metcalfe and first sung in 1869.Perhaps as important was Joseph Simpson's portrait of Peel. This version of the song can be dated through a music sellers stamp dated 1882. James Smith who wrote these amended words was responsible for the collection Poems & Ballads, sadly the arranger Pentland remains obscure.The publishers Hutchings & Romer were only located at that address 1877-84.Folio size with music.
