Previous owner's signature on front fly-leaf. Uncut. 1st ed. NOTE: Rare association copy. This copy being the author's signed presentation copy to Robert Hunt. Robert Hunt was an influential English scientific writer and researcher of the mid-1800's. He published numerous work on subjects including mining, mineralogy, photography, light, and physics. In 1851 he was appointed lecturer of mechanical science at The Royal School of Mines. He went on to chair the department of experimental physics at the same school, before going to work for the Mining Record Office. Throughout his tenure there he wrote prolifically, principally on mining, publishing individual works such as "British Mining" (1884)., and contributing articles to various scientific periodicals. This copy fully signed 'Robert Hunt", and "H.T. De la Beche".
