*Recent book description for this title:*
London, I. Willis & Co. c 1825 or earlier, probably 1824. With a monochrome lithograph portrait by Hunter of the noted soprano Angelica Catalani in the act of singing. Printed by Hunter. Pio Cianchettini(1799-1851) Italian born composer. Came to London in 1805 and accompanied Catalani in 1806 & 7 and conducted for her. He stayed in England and died in Cheltenham in 1851.Catalani(1779-1849 ) was born in Ancona and after many appearances in Italy, sang at the King's Theatre London in 18067. She re-appeared in London in 1824 and I believe that this music was published to coincide with that visit. She was highly regarded and appreciated for this version of a national anthem, Rule Britannia. Whilst the cover is a lithograph, the music is engraved and numbered plate is 36 . Neighbour and Tyson only offer the 1st plate number as 264 printed in 1826. I believe that the music relates to Catalani's first visit (1806/7) and the cover is later to correspond with 1824. Even so that makes it a very early lithographic illustrated plate and certainly the earliest litho music cover portrait of a notable operatic performer .Folio size with music. There is a very old sellotape mark on the outside edge else condition VG . Rare.
