Biography of the renowned scientist & geologist, a founding father of geological science & geographical exploration. His findings from studies of the Early Paleozoic rocks in South Wales were embodied in the monumental work 'The Salurian System' (1839) with later findings included in successive editions of his 'Siluria'. Knighted in 1846, he was later appointed Director General of the Geological Survey and Director of the Royal School of Mines and the Museum of Practical Geology.
