Coloured illustrated frontispiece, showing a Giant Panda painted by Carl Rungius, this illustration is guarded by tissue. The text is illustrated with black-and-white photography. At the rear of the book there is a foldout map showing the route taken by the expedition. Blue coloured boards with gilt illustration of a Panda on the front panel and gilt writing on the spine. The book is in very poor shape. Bumping to the head into the heel of the spine and to the book corners and the cloth has been discoloured due to insect activity. Slight moisture damage also present and the back panel is particularly affected. Browning and foxing to the paper edges. The insect activity can also be seen on the front endpapers and there is slight discoloration and grubby marks to the endpapers. The rear paste down has become loose. Front hinge has cracked and some of the illustrations have become detached from the book. All illustrations are present at time of inspection. The internal pages are brown, have handling marks and have some foxing. An expedition undertaken by the sons of Teddy Roosevelt in the 1920s looking for the Chinese Giant Panda.. First American Edition. Blue Cloth with Gilt. Very Poor/Nil. 8vo - up to 9 ¾" tall - Octavo. Natural History.
