Illustrated endpapers, showing a map of Malta and airfields used by the planes. Black and white photographic frontispiece, Showing the Surviving Gloucester Gladiator Aircraft "Faith". Within the text that there are 22 black and white photographs. Light blue boards with gilt writing on the spine. The corners of the book are rubbed and slightly frayed, and the head and the heel of the spine are soft and bumped. Rubbing along the fore edges and spine gutter edges and the spine has been sunned with loss of colour to this cloth and the gilt writing. The front board is slightly bowed and there are some marks to the front and back panel, front worse than back. Foxing and browning to the paper edges. Slight foxing to the end papers and to the first few pages of the book, handling marks present internally and bookseller's sticker on the verso side of the ffep. Between June and October 1940, 3 Gloucester Gladiator Aircraft -- known as "Faith, Hope and Charity", were the only defence that the island of Malta had against the might of the Italian Air Force.
