Melbourne: Sidgwick & Jackson in association with Hicks, Smith and Wright, 1944. X, 168pp., last blank, index of first lines and facsimile of "The Soldier" held by British Museum. Sepia toned photographic frontispiece of author. Beige colour boards with green reproduction signature of author on front panel and green writing on the spine. Corners of the book are bumped and slightly frayed and there is bumped into the heading to the heel of the spine. On the lower front edge of the book there has been loss of colour of the cloth and there are other various marks from the front panel as well. On the top of the back panel 2 small pins have been forced down between the cloth on the board and have now rusted and rust marks are visible. Some marks to the lower edge of the back panel has also occurred. Browning and foxing to the paper edges. On the lower right hand corner of the front paste down there is original bookseller's sticker and on the free front endpaper previous owner's name. Endpapers are slightly foxed and there is offset tanning. The internal pages are now starting to brown most noticeable on the edges. Plain text dust wrapper, with green decoration on front panel and grey background with black writing on front panel and green on the spine. Dust wrapper is rubbed and chipping on the corners and there is rubbing to the top dust wrapper edge and two small splits either side of the top spine gutter edge. Some chipping, with loss, has also occurred to the bottom spine edge. The dust wrapper in use rubbed and scuffed and there is browning along the fold over edges. Some sun fading has occurred to the spine. Browning is also noticeable on the top dust wrapper edge on the verso side. A collection of 94 poems by the English poet Rupert Brooke, who was killed during action in World War I.. First Australian Edition. Beige Cloth. Average/Poor. 12mo - up to 7 ¾" tall - Duodecimo. Poetry/literature.
