LAST ITEM HELD MATCHING THIS TITLE STATED:

London: Blackie and Son, Limited. 160 pages, at the back of the text they are another 32 pages of books under the banner of " Blackie and Son's Books for Young People " -- within the small subtext, there are numerous examples ( all different ) of illustrations used within some of these publications. Illustrated front cover, being a poppy design with some leaves which have fallen to the bottom of the book and some pods just underneath the flowers against a olive green background with a black heart outlined in white on the front panel. Olive coloured writing on the front panel and there is a single poppy on the spine only this time that heart is in gilt and the writing is the same. This book is in pretty poor shape. Heavy bumping, fading and fraying ( to the top, particularly ) of the head and of the heel of the spine. Heavy bumping and fraying to the book corners -- the underlying board is visible. The design on the front cover has faded and there are a few other marks as well this also goes for the back panel as well. The spine designed has almost faded to nothing and the gilt of the heart has also faded. Heavy browning and foxing to the paper edges. Browning to the endpapers and to the internal pages as well. Occasional foxing spot is noted in the text but more noticeable are the handling marks. The spine has split between pages 112-113 -- though the text is still quite tight and no pages are falling out. Gift inscription on to the free front endpaper. A novel written in the early 20th century to " inspire and encourage " young readers into " goodness ". There are no publishing details that I can find, but the gift inscription dates the book at 1917.. Not Stated. illustrated Cloth. Poor/No Jacket. Octavo - up to 9 ¾" Tall. Children's.
