Arthur Phillip is now remembered for being the first Governor of the colony of Botany Bay, a unique venture even for the 18th-century. But he was more than just founding Governor he was a naval officer of extensive experience "this was a striking 18-century naval career, reflecting both personal curiosity and the range of war and of the Royal Navy's operations.".
