London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1944. 208pp. Light blue coloured boards with black writing on the spine. Bumping to the head and to the heel of the spine and to the book corners. Shelfwear to the lower book edges and both the top and bottom book edges have become slightly faded. A few marks to the book panels and there is rubbing and loss of colour to the rear spine gutter edge. Offset tanning, browning and marking to the endpapers and internal pages are very slightly brown. Browning and foxing to the paper edges. Illustrated dustwrapper, showing a cowboy scratching the back of his head while holding his hat, with blue background and white writing on the front panel and black on the spine. The dustwrapper is rubbed, a little faded and the spine and back panel are a lot grubby. Chipping, and with loss to the dustwrapper corners. The top spine edge has also suffered chipping with loss and the lower edge has chipping at the corners. There is creasing and folding to the top and bottom on front panel edges and on the lower edge of the rear panel the number "3345" has been stamped. The rear is a 1.25 " tear to the lower dustwrapper back panel edge with associated creasing. "Cowards fear to die, But courage stout, Rather than live in snuff, Will be put out", such were the supposed words of Sir Walter Raleigh on the night before he was executed.
