Grey coloured endpapers. Blue to top paper edge. The text is illustrated with 35 pages of coloured photographs and 32 pages of black and white photographs along with numerous black-and-white line illustrations. Illustrated boards with 1950s illustration and blue writing on the spine. The head and the heel of the spine a slightly bumped and rubbed and there is a small tear to the top spine edge. Shelfwear to the top and bottom book edges. Rubbing to the corners. Browning to the paper edge use and there is offset tanning to the endpapers. The internal pages have become a little brown. Photographic dustwrapper, showing various "modern" housewife circa 1950, with pink and black writing on front panel and spine. Rubbing and chipping to the dustwrapper corners and there is a little loss to the back corners. The top 0.25 " of the spine is missing and there is a small piece missing from the lower right hand corner of the lower spine of the dustwrapper. There is rubbing and chipping to both the top and bottom dustwrapper edges. The white of the dustwrapper has become quite dull. At some stage in the book's life a sharp instrument has cut a horizontal line measuring 3.25 " on the front dustwrapper panel ( 3.5 " down from the top edge ). This cut has also impinged upon the underlying board of the book. Browning to the top dustwrapper edge and the verso side is brown and quite stained and there has been some ghosting of photographs from the front. Clipping of the dustwrapper, front fold over, lower right hand corner. The blue on the top paper edge has faded. This version of Mrs. Beeton monumental work, has realistically only the preface of the first edition as "Mrs Beeton". However, taking the format and range of the great earlier editions, this deals with every aspect of housekeeping for the modern housewife and mother, circa 1950s. All the usual contents are there, ranging from homemaking, laundry work, kitchen craft, cooking etc. If you wanted to set up a house 1950s style this would be an invaluable tool. *** This book weighs more than 1kg [2.2 lbs] and postage will be more than quoted.
