Letters from England provides the most vivid and delightful picture that we have of England in the opening years of the 19th century. It describes a series of journeys in England, ranging from Cornwall to Yorkshire and the Lakes, and the everyday life of London, accompanied by a spirited running commentary on politics, on manners and social customs and ideas. The book purports to be an account of England by a Spanish traveller, Don Manuel Alvarez Espriella, but it was in fact a written wholly by Southey. It was published in 1807, and has not been reprinted since 1814, though it is known to modern historians as a source of curious and fascinating information." -- front fold over. First Thus. Dark Blue Cloth. Good/Ordinary -- Price Clipped. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Letters.
