Photographic title page showing the environs of Coober Pedy. The text is illustrated with numerous coloured photographs and one black-and-white illustration. Pale green/grey coloured boards with gilt writing on the spine. Bumping to the head and to the heel of the spine and to the top book corners. The extreme edges of the book has become somewhat discoloured. Staining to the front-end back panels. Gift inscription on half title page. Photographic dustwrapper, the front panel showing Opal insitu and the back panel, miners at work digging for Opal, with white writing on the front panel and white and black on the spine. The dustwrapper is slightly rubbed and marked and the corners are very slightly chipped. The major fault with the dustwrapper is it has become quite sun faded on the spine, the first 1.5 " of the front panel closest to the spine and the extreme top edge of the front panel has become affected. Clipping of the dustwrapper, front fold over, lower right-hand corner. The story of the author who fell under the spell of Opal while practising medicine in Lightning Ridge. He then went to Coober Pedy and became a miner and the book tells the trials and tribulations of being an Opal miner.. First Australian Edition. Pale Green/Grey Boards.
