The text is copiously illustrated with coloured and black-and-white photography, coloured and black-and-white illustrations, and occasional map. Red coloured boards with gilt writing on the spine. Bumping to the head of the spine and rubbing to the both the top and bottom spine and to the book edges. Shelfwear to the lower book edges and there is fading to the top book edge. Browning and dust marks to the paper edges. Illustrated dustwrapper, showing the Imperial Roman eagle on the front panel and Roman ruins on the back panel, with red background and white writing on the front panel and the spine. The dustwrapper corners are rubbed and the top to a slightly chipped. The sun has caused the almost complete fading of the spine.
