Published by the author Turramurra 1st edition May 2001. Large 8vo card covers 246pp b&w photos. Fine (new book). The author's professional seafaring career lasted from 1957 to 1985. He served on British Merchant Navy cargo and passenger ships, and served at sea in warships of the Royal Navy and as a Royal Naval Reserve officer before joining the Royal Australian Navy in 1969. In the RAN, he served in warships and as the captain of patrol boat HMAS Aitape in the waters of Papua New Guinea. He was also executive officer of HMAS Jervis Bay and was stationed in Darwin as Operation Officer in 1979. At this posting, he encountered problems with boat people, illegal fishermen and drug runners. In this largely anecdotal account, Bennett shares his experiences across a number of different postings as a navigating officer and conveys his great love of and enthusiasm for sea life.
