Poet and journalist Slessor was appointed Australia's official war corrspondent during WWII. He served with Australian forces in Britain, Greece, the Middle East and Papua New Guinea. Slessor was concerned above all with the exact truth of what happened on the battlefront. It was this honesty that caused the breakdown in his relationship with Army authorities and led to his resignation as war correspondent.
