New York, Firth & Hall of Franklin Square . ( c 1846). With an unsigned monochrome front cover lithograph of the famous tree. The words were by General George P. Morris a New Yorker transplanted from Philadelphia and a noted publisher of The Mirror,New Mirror and the Home Journal but the real star was Henry Russell(1812-1900) born in England and responsible for many fine songs and performance breakthroughs. He lived in America from 1833-41 as a touring concert performer and it was here that he wrote this song in 1837. Although this is the thirteenth edition which carries the same illustration on the front cover it is likely to be only the mid 1840’s at the latest that this edition was published and in fact the publishing firm of Firth,Hall & Pond were only located at that address between 1846-7 and that would narrow publication date down to that year. Folio size with music. Condition very good. Very famous song.
