London , C. Jeffreys. c 1869 . With a superb colour lithograph by Packer & Griffin of the Cathedral of Nantes within the walled city and in the foreground a river scene. In a series by Dupuis entitled Cathedral Gems and based upon Mozart's 12th Mass. Sadly the composer Louis Dupuis is relatively obscure save that on the back page of some previous sheets there were lists of two groups of published works with reviews dated October and December 1874. On the back of this are dated reviews of another composers work these dated 1868 and so a suggested date of 1869 seems a reasonable supposition. The lithographer Thomas Packer who died in 1897 was particularly famous for the skies in his art work and it earned him the nickname of-Graduated tint Packer because he invented a process that allowed great subtlety in moonlight, sunsets and clouds and these are fine examples.
