*Recent book description for this title:*
London Francis, Day & Hunter 1899. With a colour lithograph cover by H.G. Banks of three scenes that illustrate the changing choruses and indeed the changing decades of this descriptive song which is sung by Charles Godfrey. Charles Godfrey (1851-1900) was Music Hall's greatest exponent of the dramatic song scene .He started as a Lion Comique singing songs about Mashers and getting drunk. However he is best remembered for patriotic sketches and songs such as this. Sadly his enormous popularity contributed through overwork and too much imbibing to an early demise. Folio size with music. Condition VG.
