London, Schott & Co. c 1870's. .With a monochrome lettered and ornately ornamented cover ( probably French). Louis Moreau Gottschalk (1829-69) was born in New Orleans and studied in Paris under Halle & Chopin and from 1847-53 travelled around Europe as a concert pianist. Appeared in New York and as well as North American cities he visited many South American countries and died in Rio de Janeiro. As well as a symphony he wrote over 90 pieces of work of which this is Opus 59. According to Brown's( 1886) Biographical Dictionary he was a fine pianist and an excellent harmonist though he thought his compositions sometimes a little shallow. Folio with music. Condition VG.
