It is dedicated to Mrs Harry McEleney and maybe she is Sylvia.The composer Adolphus Frederick Godfrey(1837-82) was the second son of Charles Godfrey and succeeded his father as bandmaster of the Coldstream Guards in 1863 and retained that appointment until 1880. He became a famous arranger for the military band medium and composed many band pieces and dance tunes. The Godfrey's were major band composers across three generations that dominated English popular music during the 19th Century. S.A Chappell was the younger Chappell brother whose business was a couple of doors down New Bond Street. The Chappell's Monday and Saturday Popular Concerts at St James's Hall, were also successfully managed by this younger brother, S.
