The Bodley Head, London - first edition, 1950. hardcover, 7 1/2" x 5", with dust jacket. VERY GOOD book in VERY GOOD price-clipped DJ. Red cloth-bound boards with white type to spine (photo of 'Borley Rectory', Suffolk on back of jacket). The actual Rectory was destroyed by fire in 1939, the ruins purchased by the author and rebuilt; becoming "the most haunted house in England". When the cottage was not being besieged by impatient sightseers, it was echoing to the thumps and bangs of indignant poltergeists, if the author is to be believed. A delightful & hilarious novel of life among the ghosts. Original jacket fortunately protected by previous owner who taped plastic over jacket to boards (leaving tape marks on front & rear endpapers), 3/4" tear visible at front bottom spine, now protected; a few foxing marks beginning to appear to fore & bottom edge. Original bookseller's label to front paste-down.
