LAST ITEM HELD MATCHING THIS TITLE STATED:

Frederick Ungar Publishing, New York, 1979. Hardcover, 8¼" x 5½", with dust jacket. VERY GOOD book in VERY GOOD unclipped dust jacket. Dark-blue cloth-bound boards with gold type to spine, cream endpapers, some 70 poems, a 16-page introductory biography, notes, and index to first lines; the whole printed on cream stock. The refreshingly poetic voice of Anne Finch (1661- 1720), Countess of Winchilsea, is here expressed through love lyrics, satires, fables, and meditative nature pieces (the genres of her period). A friend of Pope, Swift, Gay, and Rowe, she demonstrates typical Augustan reticence and concern for form, and vehemently insisted that a person with talent has a right to use it. This anthology provides a generous selection of Winchilsea's poetry, made available to readers in the first edition since 1903.
