These are Richard Mackay's memories of the scores of years he spent in the Victorian Highlands (Australia) amongst the alluvial miners and quartz reefers, with emphasis on Woods Point, Matlock, Walhalla districts. Mackay lived 1834-1926, and wrote these recollections in 1915 (some paragraphs and chapters in the original have been rearranged here to present a logical sequence to the events).
