Peter Owen Publishers, London - first edition ISBN:0720608651, 1992. Hardcover, 8¾" x 5½", with dust jacket. Ours is an ex-library copy in transparent protective covering, with usual stamps, stickers, barcode etc. VERY GOOD book in VERY GOOD unclipped dust jacket. Dark-green cloth-bound boards with gold type to spine. The Bohemian life in the clubs and pubs of Soho in the forties and fifties forms a focal point of this book. There Oliver, like his brothers Bruce and Jeffrey, knew everyone: the painters Francis Bacon, Lucien Freud and John Minton; writers and poets such as Julian Maclaren-Ross, Daniel Farson, Dylan Thomas, Elizabeth Smart and George Barker. Joyce Grenfell befriended him, and through her he was encouraged as a poet by Walter de la Mare. An eye-opening and immensely entertaining book.
