Museum Press, London - first edition, 1945. hardcover, 6" x 8¾', with (soiled) dust jacket. READING COPY ONLY, text totally legible but jacket & covers stainted and decrepit. Twenty-seven b&w photographs; map endpapers. The author turned from tourist to war correspondent overnight when the Bloody Saturday bombing of Nanking Road turned the North China incident into the Chinese-Japanese War. He became editorial advisor to a Chiang Kai-skek ministery, staying for three years, visiting war fronts, dining with the Generalissimo, editing Madame Chiang's first book, was imprisioned and strafed by Japanese war-planes. This book was written during the Second World War. Amazing experiences!
