He was a professional naval officer, as his father had been, and by 1939 was in command of a destroyer flotilla, and later became Supreme Allied Commander, South East Asia. In peace-time he was Viceroy of India and helped negotiate the difficult path of Indian independence. In 1952 he became British and NATO Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean Station. The book has 64 pages of b&w photographs.
