This book continues the 7th Divisions activities in the Markham / Ramu Valley (New Guinea) campaign during November and December, 1943 with emphasis on operation Cut-Throat - the capture of part of Shaggy Ridge by 18th Brigade battalions, and to fight the enemy on a one-man front in December, 1943 (an action previously untried). In one of the few lighter moments, the men heard a recorded broadcast of the 1943 Melbourne Cup - "Bets to be settled on pay day, the date of which is as uncertain as home leave.
