Donald Moore, Singapore - first edition, 1954. card-covered softcover, 5" x 7½. Wrap-around cover colour illustration is painting of Singapore from Fort Canning by J T Thomson. Book in VERY GOOD condition. Frontispiece portrait of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, founder of Singapore. Seventeen b&w illustrations (from the Raffles Museum). Although this booklet was published half a century ago, the history it tells dates back much further - to thirteenth century and early Kings of Singapura, later when Raffles made enemies there in the early 1800s, the first British Resident (1819-23), followed by the great colonial influx. Wonderful tales of traders, tiger hunts, the first car, and organ players.
