John Lane The Bodley Head, London - cheap edition, 1935. Hardcover, 9¼" x 6½" (lacks jacket). Cover edges have wear. Book in GOOD condition. Blue cloth-bound boards with (fading) red type to spine, illustrated endpapers, frontispiece portrait (Lady Houston DBE), 32 b&w photographs, four appendices, and index. The purpose of the Everest Flight was to demonstrate that the aeroplane and the air camera could be made the means of acquiring important knowledge which would otherwise be unobtainable; it was also a feat of daring and endurance. The successful completion of the expedition was due to the months of hard work in the UK and India in 1932 and 33; the resultant efforts provided a strip map culminating in the summit of Everest and considerably enhanced meteorological knowledge. A fascinating book detailing the entire planning, funding and execution of a world-first operation.
