LAST ITEM HELD MATCHING THIS TITLE STATED:

Peter Owen Limited, London - first translation in English, 1958. hardcover 8 3/4" x 5 1/2" and jacket front mounted. Ours is an ex-library copy, with the jacket front mounted on front, & flap blurb on verso of half-title page; with usual stamps, stickers. Book in GOOD condition. Red cloth-bound boards with (fading) gold type to spine, frontispiece illustration of Dumas as a young man, four full-page b&w illustrations, index. After his return from Switzerland in 1833, Dumas proceeded to publish an account of his travels in 'Revue des deux Mondes' - "I didn't know you could be so entertaining and witty," a friend exclaimed. "Neither did I!" Dumas replied. But he was, and he is. His original work is here reduced by two-thirds, but its as entertaining and witty as ever - one of the best travel stories ever written. A minor Classic.
