LAST ITEM HELD MATCHING THIS TITLE STATED:

Arco Publications, London, 1962. hardcover, 8" x 5 1/4", with dust jacket. Ours is an ex-library copy in transparent protective covering. Front hinge half-exposed. Library pocket roughly removed. GOOD book in GOOD unclipped dust jacket. Black cloth-bound boards with gold type to spine. Of all Jules Verne's works, the one which most clearly displays his political philosophy is his posthumous adventure story, 'The Survivors of the "Jonathon"'. Hitherto untranslated into English, it described the experiences of a ship-load of emigrants whose vessel is wrecked near Cape Horn. They are saved from death by an enigmatic benefactor who gives the first part of work its title. 'The Masterless Man' is an anarchist who regards all human evils as being due to law and government, to man's desire to control his fellow man.
