Hamish Hamilton Ltd, London - sixth impression, 1966. hardcover, 5¾" x 8¾", with dust jacket. Jacket protected by transparent covering taped to boards (with faint tape staining). Previous owner's name to front endpaper. VERY GOOD book in VERY GOOD unclipped dust jacket. Photographic frontis portrait ('Bismark in 1855'), five other photographic portraits, fold-out map of Germany, bibliography and index. A J P Tatlor, a recognised authority on German history, has gone back to original sources and has treated Bismark as a man of his time instead of measuring him by the standards of the present day. Though it discusses Bismark's policy fully, it also described the strange complicated character of Bismark the man. It is an essay in psychology as well as in political understanding.
