Allen & Unwin, Sydney - second impression, 1986. hardcover, 9 1/4" x 6 1/4', with dust jacket. Jacket is in transparent protective covering. VERY GOOD book in VERY GOOD unclipped dust jacket. Black cloth-bound boards with gold type to spine, maroon endpapers, photographic portrait as frontispiece [Brigadier-General Bennett, aged 31], seven maps, 20 b&w photographs, bibliography, index. Bennett enjoyed a meteoric rise through the ranks during WWI - his bravery at Gallipoli and France was legendary - yet by the end of WWII his career was shattered. His escape from Singapore in 1942 became the subject of a Royal Commission; he faced a military Court of Inquiry, his portrait at the Australian War Memorial was defaced. This book concentrates on his career after 1939.
