London: Hippolyte Bailliere, 1853. First edition. 8vo, red blind stamped cloth; 6 [adverts], xiv, 240 pp, colour frontis, 4 colour plates, 2 folding maps + folding chart of Papuan and Aboriginal dialects. With stamps of the Radcliffe Library, Oxford, on the front pastedown and no other markings. The inner hinges of this copy are split (not detached - bindings still sound) and the head of the spine is chipped with a 40mm loss (includes some spine lettering). Aside from some moderate foxing of the frontis the internal contents are in clean and pleasing condition. Aside from the obvious faults mentioned above this item is in very good condition.
