The extraordinary tale of the biggest battleship of her era named variously Rio de Janeiro, Sultan Osman I, and finally as HMS Agincourt, she joined the British Grand Fleet, & fought at Jutland in 1916. What preceeded this was a bun fight of massive proportions. Brazil had aspirations of ownership and shocked the great powers in 1911 by ordering a ship of dreadnought proportions - 'Rio de Janerio'. Her completion on the Tyne, years later, took place with British bayonets barring possession to her rightful owners. She had nearly bankrupted two countries & became the prize in a tense international auction. 16 b&w photos. Minor chip to dust jacket over blue clth covered end boards.
